George’s Fund makes a difference to children’s play in Herefordshire

In January, George’s Fund awarded £38,476 to ten projects across Herefordshire that harness the power of nature to support children. Set up by Laura Hughes to celebrate the short but special life of her son, George’s Fund was delighted to be able to award grants to a range of fantastic initiatives, from Herefordshire primary school projects to charities working with young children.

At one such project with Marches Family Network, under-11s with complex disabilities have been able to try new activities and socialise with peers of a similar age, as part of the Play+ scheme. Last week, Laura had the pleasure of joining a session with Marches Family Network, facilitated by the amazing Dandy Lions, to see the project that George’s Fund supported come to life.

Laura was delighted to see the impact of the funding, “It was special to watch the children having so much fun outdoors, and I left thinking, This is why we keep going with our fundraising efforts.”

On the 13th September there will be another opportunity to raise funds with ‘Spin for George’, at De Koffie Pot.  There are a few bikes left – 🚴‍♂️ £60 for 12 hours of spinning (10:00–22:00), that’s just £5 an hour!

Message Joe FIRST (on Instagram or Facebook via @fullcycle ) to check bike availability, then donate £60 per bike on the JustGiving page. Include your team name in the donation message, so we know who the booking is for.

Every penny raised will go directly into George’s Fund. However, if you don’t fancy spinning, you can come down anyway.  There will be music, a raffle, good company, and a touch of glitter 🧡

To learn more about the fund, how to donate and read about the projects supported, please see the George’s Fund page.
