Local Boy Hits the Headlines In Aid of George’s Fund

Nine-year-old Floyd from Hereford is completing an awesome 145km challenge this September in honour of his friend George, who died at the age of five.

Born on the same day, September 29 2015, Floyd and George were best friends. Sadly, just after their fifth birthday, George died from an incurable brain tumour.

In honour of George’s short and special life, his family set up George’s Fund, right here at the Herefordshire Community Foundation, to raise funds to support children in the county aged three to eleven.

Currently halfway through his epic 30-day challenge, Floyd is completing 5km a day by running, walking, and cycling for the entire month of September, honouring George who will be forever five. He’s on track to finish on what would have been their tenth birthday.

With the original fundraising target of £500 swiftly exceeded, Floyd has set a new goal of £5,000 and he’s over 90% there already! Not content with generating funds for George’s Fund solo, he even garnered support from his school (St James’ Primary), who recently held a ‘Wear Orange’ fundraiser for the challenge, bringing in an extra £104.

This substantial amount of money (and counting!) will make a huge difference to children right across the county, investing in much-needed support across a range of areas, from community gardens to gifts promoting emotional well-being for children facing life-threatening illnesses, to giving financial support to families with children living with cancer, and much more!
